I agree that Vuescan is a spectacular program! However, it is a scanning program, and the OP is looking for Document Management Software (per the title of this thread). appenz March 7, 2018, 4:56pm 1 I am trying to set up DevonThink Office Pro for a very simple use case: Scan and OCR documents Sort from inbox into groups Search and retrieve docs occasionally Share documents in those groups with family members (different groups for different members) and external parties (e.g. We are using it in a very prolonged project of scanning over three decades of photo negatives and slides (10's of thousands). We are using a Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED scanner which gives fantastic results. but it takes about 4-5 minutes per 4 image film strip. We have been doing this intermittently for the past 2-3 years, and we are about 1/2 done with the project. Like ABBYY FineScanner, it’s quite pricey ( 149.95 after a 150-hour test-drive ), but coming up on 15 months together I couldn’t imagine my life without it. Scroll and click on the transcript to jump to that part of the video. We changed from the Nikon SW to VueScan in December '09 and it is considerably better than Nikon's SW. In a post about the wonders of ABBYY FineScanner back in May, I promised to write about another pillar of my archival process, the database management program, DevonThink Pro Office. DEVONthink Pro Office - Part 1 - Preview The transcript will follow that audio as the video plays. The good news is that we are reaching the end of the negatives. the feeder processes 50 at a time, so it should go MUCH faster. We have boxes full of prints with no negatives or unscannable negatives (C110 negatives). and for those we will just use the ScanSnap sheet scanner to directly scan prints. Of course, scanning prints is nowhere near the quality of scanning negatives. I finally feel like this project will end!!! #DEVONTHINK PRO OFFICE BOX FULL#īut you can scan a full set of prints (24 or 36 exposure) in just a few seconds with the ScanSnap. I thought DTPO would be my answer and it may be, however, so far I have found in using the demo:ġ. It doesn't seem to auto straighten or auto crop and I had a hard time even manually adjusting the image size in the scan window. Now I am currently only using a Canon Pixma MP530 which does have a flatbed and doc feeder, and realize for speed I will need a Fujitsu S1300 or S1500M.Ģ. I haven't gotten far enough to use the Auto Classify feature, but one thing about Paperless or Neat that I do like (their UI is horrid and unpolished compared to DTPO) is that you can tell it a scan is of type - receipt, contact, manual, etc. And for each type it populates certain fields automatically from the OCR data and rather than being purely searchable.ģ. Not having the option to index files in place is a deal breaker for me. This technique can also reduce performance as all the database objects are sent. My DEVONThink Pro Office content are a mix of imported and indexed items. I scanned a Costco receipt and they put their receipts with the total in a black box/white letter reversed, so the OCR picked up all the individual amounts but not the total. DEVONTHINK PRO OFFICE BOX FULL DEVONTHINK PRO OFFICE BOX WINDOWS. But I didn't see a way to annotate the scan with other info. great tool it saves me enormous time & effort even so, out of the box. Short story: don't sync indexed items to DEVONthink to Go if something else is syncing the same files.Especially since I want the date to be the receipt date and not the scan date. I use DevonAgent Pro with DevonThink Pro Office, using these 2 apps together. There is nothing in either Obsidian sync or DEVONthink sync that is configured to resolve these conflicts, and data loss might be unavoidable. If you change the file in Obsidian on your iOS device there and both apps are syncing that changed data, you are telling DEVONthink to Go to sync something that it does not know has changed, while you're telling Obsidian to sync something that it does know has changed. For example, if you index an Obsidian vault in DEVONthink and sync that vault via DEVONthink to DEVONthink to Go, then you run into possible conflicts if you also use Obsidian to sync the files to the same device on which you're running DEVONthink to Go. While DEVONthink can be configured to synchronize indexed items to DEVONthink to Go, you should be circumspect about using that setting.
