![]() Joining the Learning and Performance Network in 2013 as a hub (lead) school The Canterbury Academy worked in partnership with The Marlowe Theatre and a cluster (partners) of local schools.Īctivities across the 3 years included: hosting a RSC First Encounter touring production regular INSET and workshops teachers receiving Postgraduate Certificates in the Teaching of Shakespeare pupils meeting Prince Charles cluster launch performances site-specific performances around Canterbury, Shakespeare performances at The Marlowe and RSC theatres and Shakespeare Ambassadors working with staff from The Marlowe Theatre. They created a team of teachers working together to develop Shakespeare and active approaches.Īrchibald Primary School hope that in becoming a Lead Associate School they can share their expertise with other schools across the country and measure the impact this has.Ĭanterbury Academy is a larger-than-average mixed secondary school in Kent and serves a deprived neighbouring area. The Headteacher and the Chair of Governors championed the cause for developing a curriculum that includes Shakespeare. Three of their teachers gained a Postgraduate Certificate in the Teaching of Shakespeare and the school and their cluster took part in a programme of INSET, workshops and professional development for teachers. They hosted an RSC production of King Lear and performed two whole school Shakespeare productions, every pupil in the school had a part in each production. Lead Associate Schools are appointed for a two-year period with the opportunity to renew and extend their involvement at the end of this time. Over time, you will then be able to confidently speak about the impact the work has had on students, teachers and the wider school community. If you are interested in becoming a Lead Associate School but have had relatively little contact with us, we would first ask that you experience the range of work we offer and test that our approach is right for you. They take on a leadership role because they have already seen and experienced the impact of Shakespeare's work and RSC approaches on students and teachers in their school. Lead Associate Schools will have prior experience of working with the RSC before taking on this role.
